Sandcastle Waterpark and Live Nation have made the decision to postpone the opening of the Amphitheater at Sandcastle until the spring of 2008.
Tom Mendenhall, SVP with Live Nation, stated that “An aggressive construction schedule and delays in obtaining necessary permits led us to the conclusion that it was in everyone’s best interest to delay the opening until 2008”. Live Nation is still considering producing festivals including the Pittsburgh Irish Festival at Riverplex adjacent to Sandcastle this season. Construction for the overall amphitheater project will begin this fall.
Peter J. McAneny, President of Kennywood Entertainment who operates Sandcastle Waterpark, stated that “Although disappointed that we have to delay the opening we firmly believe that it is the correct decision. We continue to be excited about the opportunity to work with Live Nation and to bring this new venue to life in 2008.”
The Fray scheduled for June 17 at amphitheater at Sandcastle has been cancelled. Refunds are available at the original point of purchase. Ticket holders can see The Fray on June 18 at Time Warner Cable Amphitheater in Cleveland or June 29 at Germain Amphitheater in Columbus. Bring your ticket from the cancelled Pittsburgh date to either venue box office the night of show and receive free entrance to either the Cleveland or Columbus performance.
